Starting this blog to document my engineering projects during my time studying engineering with management in Trinity College Dublin. Assignments in the following semester will include a hackathon type project to develop an environmentally friendly alternative household coffee machine and various other projects incorporating the use of an Arduino based robot.

I recently completed the hackathon coffee machine project with a fellow classmate. We had 7 days before we presented our idea to our class via a youtube video and uploaded a 2 page report along side. The first steps of forming a design required brainstorming ideas and this is where the idea of an easily repaired coffee machine came into mind. With the constant idea to make this design as environmentally friendly as possible, the use of recycled aluminium sprung to mind. Taking this design further, I researched patents for similar machines and struggled to find such. On review of applicable EU standards we were able to make our design realistic and professional.

This project was the first time I have been required to edit and share a video. For our presentation we first decided on a short intro to grab the class’ attention and show them something different. As for the presenting of our design, we clicked through a slide show while speaking over through a zoom call. I screen recorded this section and uploaded the clips to imovie along with our intro and background music. I published the video to youtube and presented to our class over Microsoft teams.
